Design Process

Above are the first parts to our first iteration of our emergency coordinates model. This is our "box" model. It was designed to hold all the materials needed in the making of this product. There are, however, key errors in this model. It is not very space efficient and not very portable. We hope to address these problems in future iterations.

Above is a picture of our first attempt at sending an "SOS" signal. We succeeded in sending a signal from an android phone to this bluetooth module. However, because this is bluetooth, it has a very limited range. We hope to increase the range by using different hardware such as a radio.

Above are some pieces to our second iteration. We altered the shape of the design to a pod form. This offers a much more portable use out of our product. Additionally, this should increase the market for our product to everyday people who go hiking, skiing, etc...

Above are three pieces to our third iteration of our model. We focussed on the sizes of each component. I made the entire pod larger and the area for our balloon larger. I think that we are going to keep our product in the "pod" form until the end.

Above are photos of our printed 3D model of threads. We wanted to test just if the threads fit without printing out the entire pod. After printing, you can see above, that it did fit and we are now ready to print the entire pod. There are a few changes I want to make before printing it out.
